In the evening of 2 April 2008, the Consultative Council of Asia International Open University (Macau), the rectors, the presidents from Macau Higher Education Institutes, the representatives of various departments of Macau SAR Government, the representatives of Macau Alumni Association of Huaqiao University, the staff and the students of the University as well as the guests gathered in the Grand Hall, 4th floor of Macau Tower. They all attended the “Conferment Ceremony of Rector Emeritus and Academic Council Chairman Emeritus”. Prof. Zhuang Shanyu was awarded the distinction of Rector Emeritus of AIOU and Prof. Armando Rocha Trindade was awarded the distinction Academic Council Chairman Emeritus of AIOU. In this ceremony, Dr. K. K. Wong, Chairman of Asia International Open University (Macau) Administrative Council gave the guests a brief introduction of AIOU and Open University of Portugal. Prof. Armando Rocha Trindade became the first Rector of UA. Moreover, Prof. Carlos Reis, the present Rector of Open University of Portugal and Chairman of Asia International Open University (Macau) Academic Council expressed his high appreciation to the contributions and achievements of Prof. Zhuang Shanyu in all respects. The two awarded professors gave their speeches sharing their working experiences in the two universities. They were very modest but they had contributed so much. Therefore the warmest congratulations and the utmost respect were expressed to both of them, in this ceremony.
